You Are Beautiful: Benefit for F.R.E.E.D. is the second event put on by Jill Sharpe and Kimberly Oliver. The first, a benefit for suicide awareness & prevention was a great success this past June and we thank again all the artists and musicians involved and the wonderful people who came to support.
This event is a celebration of self-love and self-acceptance as well as a benefit for a wonderful small non-profit called F.R.E.E.D.: For Recovery & Elimination of Eating Disorders. While certainly not everyone has an eating disorder, disordered eating as well as obsession with appearance are accepted as normal in our society.
*We want to raise awareness about the destructive and devastating realities of eating disorders.
* We want to set good examples of health, happiness, and self-love!
*We want to spread knowledge and share information!

VICTORY IN PASSING MENTAL HEALTH PARITY!
October 3, 2008
The EDC applauds Congress for their commitment to eliminating discrimination in health care coverage against people suffering from mental disorders. After tireless negotiations between differing House and Senate versions, both chambers came together to pass mental health parity this year. This bill requires group health plans that currently offer coverage for mental health and substance-use disorders to provide those benefits in the same manner as benefits provided to all other medical and surgical procedures covered under the plan. It also prohibits group health plans from imposing discriminatory annual/lifetime dollar limits, copays and deductibles, or day and visit limits unless similar limitations or requirements are imposed for other medical and surgical benefits.
